我们天生喜欢香，极少喜欢臭。自然规律也显示：香料能使物品保存持久。这其实已经用气味指明了方向，所谓正道，就是千古流芳。于是在古人面前，很多不同类别的名词汇成了一种通感：芬芳、侠骨、馨香、大义、正气、至善、……古人相信，任何选择都会自带气味标签。但吊诡的是，在历史重要节点上那些意见截然相反的人，无不坚称自己都是正气使然。而作为后来人，我们也确实发现，随着深入了解双方，越来越难以评判。香，究竟是客观共识，还是辩证的转化？本片选取与五位古人命运相连的香料，串起他们曾经在那些重要节点上的冲突和选择。建筑师托尼（梁家辉 饰）的个性十分木讷老实，以至于他暗恋同时艾琳（陈雅伦 饰）多年，却总也鼓不起勇气表白，更糟的是，艾琳已有一位感情亲密的男友，托尼的单恋似乎注定不会有结果。一次偶然中，托尼被猛鬼缠身，索性得到名为嘉嘉（关之琳 饰）的女鬼相助才得以脱身，也正因为这件事，托尼拥有了能与嘉嘉心意相通的特异功能。　　得知了托尼的苦恋，热心的嘉嘉决定帮他一把，一番波折之后，艾琳终于离开了男友，投入了托尼的怀抱，可是，直到这时，托尼才发现自己其实早已经深深的爱上了嘉嘉，无奈人鬼殊途，无法承受分离之苦的托尼竟然决定殉情。本片记录了西部非洲的乡下青年到城市打工的经历。许多尼日利亚青年离开位于内陆的家乡来到沿海国家象牙海岸打工，许多人在首都阿比让的平民区落脚。本片主人公是一位仿照美国电影明星取名爱德华·罗宾逊的年轻人，他在摄影机前讲述自己及其同伴的故事。The film depicts an ordinary week in the lives of men and women from Niger who have migrated to Abidjan, Cote D'Ivoire for work. After a short introduction by Rouch, Edward G. Robinson-Omarou Ganda, who like the film's other subject-collaborators plays himself under the name of a Western movie star-takes over the film's narration, recreating dialogue and providing freewheeling commentary on his experiences.
